Saw a link to a blog post on the Barrow forum and I thought it was a very good read, right to the point.

The author is a top lad.

Good article makes some very valid points.

I'm sure there are other ex players who have plenty to offer the game but it concerns me that they are drifting away to Rugby Union; Joe Lydon being one of the most recent. Would Shaun Edwards be a better England coach than Tony Smith?

Nowt new there, is there? Stuff about the abolition of P&R and franchising we can all agree on, but Garry Schofield? No thanks. Great player but who now regularly embarrasses himslef as a journalist, trying to be controversial for the sake of it.

I thought this piece by Phil Clarke pinpointed the problems more accurately.

Chris you already know my views .i have just read the piece ,agree with every word of that ,if garry was to take a lead with this love him or loathe him he would get a massive following and once that happened we could really move on it and take the game back and give it back to the people that matter most THE FANS we have been s.h.i.t. on for far too long now yes i agree step forward schoey .maybe this should be put on every forum including the sl ones there would be people running round like headless chickens ,what am i saying they have been doing that for years ,well spotted chris 10 out of 10 mate .

A load of hot air by a disgruntled Widnes fan. After going into Admin they didn't deserve a franchise. Gary Scholfield only writes as he does because he is paid to do it. Finance is at the heart of any business like it or not. The world cup made £2 million, the small nations are moving forward and I feel that we can't develope any other way. Shouting about injustices because you were not selected is futile. bet if Widnes were now in SL he wouldn't have anything to say. Lets have a constructive alternative that would generate more income (sponsors and advertising and TV ) and it would be worth reading. The ways suggested would lead us into a league of village teams with no income. I am sure the powers that be have looked at the alternatives. We were poor at the WC because we were tired, there was no zip in the team. Less games and more international experience. I would agree about stopping Aussie imports.

So we lost the WC because we were tired-absolute rubbish.
We lost because SL does not and never will produce international class players and we were coached by someone who couldn't man manage or coach players from different teams and mould them into anything like a 'team'.

What's done is done, the RFL are not going to get egg on their face and do a U-turn, so we all have to find the best way forward! If they only promote one club from the heartlands in 3 years time there will be jeopardy of a rebellion from NL clubs.
I begin to wonder whether the reason they are expanding play-offs to 8 clubs is that it gives more of the sitting tennants chance of acheiving at least 1 play-off in three years, giving an excuse not to relegate them?

1 - 'Gary Scholfield only writes as he does because he is paid to do it'..........does stevo/eddie/phil do it for free like?

2 - 'The world cup made £2 million'........just think what it would make with teams that can compete with the aussies, as it doesnt affect fev, I dont give 2 hoots.

3 - 'Shouting about injustices because you were not selected is futile. bet if Widnes were now in SL he wouldn't have anything to say'.........an i bet we wouldnt be saying a great deal either if we were in it.

4 - 'We were poor at the WC because we were tired, there was no zip in the team'........we were beaten by a class outfit, one we cant compete against, we couldnt even beat a 'not as classier' outfit. You make it sound like we were the only ones to play rugby during the summer.

I'm not a businessman, but I'm no fool either. The product we have at the moment is the laughing stock of the sporting world. As a down to earth/man on the street RL fan, I can relate to the article which I feel has been well worded, regardless of who he supports.

Some good points and you make an alternative answer that is your right.
In respect of Schofield the point I am making is that he is specifically employed to be controversial, therefore he is always going to 'have a go'. What the other two you mention do is also dictated by their contracts.
Yesterday's result speaks for itself. We have got into the mind system of not being good enough that needs changing. The profit is better than RU profit for the last World Cup(they made a loss), and I feel signifies a good competition. We always seem to concentrate on the negatives.
I agree with your third comment.
Quite a few pundits agree with what I said. It is just a point of view. You could argue that we beat NZ 3-0 and they have just won the world cup. Dependes what slant you take.
I don't think the product we have is the laughing stock of the sporting world. The RU team were soundly thrashed by S.A. Everyone of the RU pundits are talking up the positives. 'Young team, more experience will come in due course, Johnson needs time' and they were pathetic. I bet there will be a different reaction in 2009 when the four nations are played. So we didn't win, NZ did by honing their product to meet the circumstances, we will do the same. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. That is what this forum is about. It is by far the most thought provoking RL site there is and long may it remain so.
